Chris Fisher Repeats in Street Stock World 100. Bryce Davis Captures Late Models

For the second straight BRS World 100 Saturday, mother nature intervened and delayed the Street Stock Feature; and for the second straight year, it was Chris Fisher who scored the win in the longest race of the year.



Fisher, from Bluff Point, NY, put an exclamation point on his 2010 track championship by leading the final 59 laps of the race to pick up his seventh win of the year at Black Rock Speedway.



From start to finish as the No. 37 was quickest in time trials, won his heat, and took the lead from Bob Buono on lap 42 and never looked back.


“The right rear starting giving up but it was good enough to get here,” stated Fisher in Victory Lane. “The first one is always sweeter, but this pretty good.”


The race saw Mother Nature intervene for the first time on lap 30, when the track became too wet for the street stock to race on the 4/10-mile, the parked in the infield and let another class work the track back in. Fisher took the lead in the next 21 lap segment and then would command the second half of the show.


During the lap 51 pit stop to refuel, Bob Buono gave up second place to change a tire and would have to restart at the rear. Gene Sharpsteen, who restarted in second, pulled to the infield after having a steering issue coming off of turn two. Bubba Burnell would inherit second and began to apply heavy pressure on one of his biggest opponents in 2010.



Fisher and Burnell would duel for nearly 25 laps but as the race wore on Fisher began to pull away from the No. 57B. The final restart would come with 10 laps remaining and nobody had anything for Fisher.



Burnell had to deal with 2008 BRS World 100 Winner Rich Talada in the closing laps, but would hold him off for second. Talada was ahead of 2006 winner Bob Buono and 2009 Track Champion Frank Guererri Jr., who completed the top-five after using a track provisional to get in the feature.


Bryce Davis went into Saturday racing for a cure for Breast Cancer and came out not only with plenty of money raised; his quest also saw him pick up the Isky Racing Cams BRP CanAm Season Finale for the second straight year.


Davis, from Canisteo, charged underneath Mikey Wonderling on a lap 25 restart in turn two and then withstood the advances of Bruce Miller for the victory in the 30-lap event.



The race had a frantic pace to it, running the first 16 laps without issue. Mikey Wonderling grabbed the early lead and checked out on the field. Once he hit lapped traffic in the No. 57J though Davis was quick to close in.



Davis redrew the sixth starting spot after time trialing 12th, which was the final spot to lock into the feature. As soon as the initial green flag waved from Scott Hixson, he was on the move as he would dive to the bottom while the rest of the leaders hung up on the top of the track.



Davis sliced into second on lap six and then began to stalk Wonderling. Even after the races first restart, Wonderling would hold the lead, but a lap 24 caution would change his fortunes.



Davis once again dove to the inside of turn one on lap 25, but this time was able to clear Wonderling before exiting turn two. He had enough room to get up to the top of the track in turn three and rocket around to take the lead for good.



The final caution of the event came out on lap 26 for a four car pile up; on the restart, Bruce Miller darted by Wonderling for second and then chased down Davis while running the same line. Miller dove to the inside of the No. 94 in turn one but didn’t have enough momentum to stay with the youngster exiting turn two. That allowed Davis the space he needed to capture his second tour win of the season.



Davis celebrated in Victory Lane in front of his pink No. 94 adorned with an endless amount of signatures. The crew joined in wearing pink hats to accentuate the fact that they were racing for a cure this weekend.



Miller would have to settle for second as Mikey Wonderling crossed in third. His brother Jeremy charged up to fourth, ahead of Glenn Whritenour, who completed the top five.



Even though it wasn’t their best nights, Wayne Robertson and Larry Knowles fought hard all 30 laps as they scrambled for the 2010 BRP CanAm Tour Championship. Knowles never had the provisional lead at any point in the race, but was getting closer until a lap 26 caution took a number of “buffer” cars between himself and Robertson out of the mix.



On the final lap, Robertson and Knowles came across the line side-by-side, making contact after receiving the checkered flag. Robertson would get the spot and easily had enough points to earn his first series champion over the veteran Knowles, who may have turned his final laps.



New Jersey’s Jeff Hartman put on an impressive performance in the NY vs. PA 600 Micro Sprint Challenge, as he jumped in front of David Ferguson on a lap 10 restart and stretched out his lead over the second half of the race for a $1,500 pay day.


A brief shower just before the feature brought much-needed moisture back into the track for the winged machines, which fostered some of phenomenal racing. After the races first caution on lap nine, leader David Ferguson saw Chuck Hebing peak to his inside, Brock Zearfoss to the outside and Hartman dart on by to the lead.



Hartman put his No. 026 in front while the other three slowed one another down and then proved to have the best car once in clean air.



“This might be the best track I’ve ever raced on,” declared Hartman in Victory Lane. “If this track wasn’t five hours away from home, I would be here every time.”



As Hartman held command of the lead, David Ferguson secured second for the second straight night. Brock Zearfoss won both of his heat races and finished in third. Tim Buckwalter had a hard-fought fourth-place finish and Chuck Hebing rounded out the top-five.


Rich Sharpsteen II fought valiantly to earn his second feature win of the season at Black Rock, as he held off Terry Povoski nearly the entire distance to cross the line first in the 15-lap 4-Cylinder Feature. Upon post-race inspection however, he was disqualified, which gave the win to Terry Povoski.


Sharpsteen took the lead from Mike Ziarno on a lap two restart and then saw Povoski peak his No. 4 to the inside of the “Flyin’ X” in every corner until lap 14 when the two made slight contact when Povoski pushed up. Povoski would lose just enough ground to allow Sharpsteen to scoot away.



The FWD 4-cylinder enduro was run during one of the rain delays for the street stocks. Jamie Eldredge got around Joe Povoski after a lap six red flag and cruised to his second straight win at the track. Povoski and Joe Boylon rounded out the top-three.



Racing will conclude at Black Rock in two weeks as the FWD 4-Cylinder Enduros run their $10,000-to-win 100-lap event. The sportsman will also run the $2,000-to-win and $200-to-start Empire 50 and the street stocks have a Northeast Championship event with major bonuses available.
