Black Rock Speedway Adds Spec Sprints for 2009

DUNDEE, NY - The Black Rock Speedway has always been a pioneer in the New York State sprint car community, a trend that will continue moving forward with the new sprint car class.

The “Spec Sprint” class will debut on Friday May 1, 2009 at Black Rock and run each and every week through a very loaded season.

Using 350 c.i. sprint engines prepared equally by Castner’s Performance Center in Penn Yan, NY this class will serve as a new way to get into a winged car at a reasonable price. This division will use car specifications identical to other sprint car divisions, with the only difference being the engine. With a price of $9995, it will be sure to attract attention.

Paying a purse comparable to the modifieds in 2008, this division is likely to attract top racers from other divisions that have always wanted to run sprints but have been unable to travel. With the sprints on the card each and every Friday Night, that will change in a hurry.

Multi-time sprint winner Ray Preston has been at the forefront of the testing process, running the majority of over 300 laps at BRS to evaluate the efficiency this division. Along with Preston, nearly a dozen other drivers have taken their turn in the No. 22 and have been pleased with what they saw.

Preston’s car was on hand at the National Parts Peddler Trade Show and Auction this past weekend in the Black Rock booth, attracting plenty of attention and allowing for the education process to hit full song.

The 350 sprints will also be able to compete with 360 sprints on tour; with these spec engines meeting guidelines necessary for races on the road. With horsepower numbers over 600 and speeds close to many 360s, the difference is negligible.

At the end of the season, a champion will be crowned just like the other 6 weekly divisions at Black Rock. During the off-season, Castner’s Performance Center will refresh the engines at an economical price to prepare for 2010.

The speedway will be open for testing at the April 2009 shows to prepare for the sprint car opener in May. All technical questions, availability and pricing is available from Ross Castner at 315-730-4469.
