DUNDEE, NY - Less than two weeks ago, the 2008 racing season in the northeast is rapidly approaching, and it is once again Black Rock’s honor of flinging the first dirt of the spring.

Last year the first Saturday in April was too cold to foster a $5,000-to-win Sportsman event. This time around, when the weather cooperates, both a sportsman and street stock competitor will be driving out of Dundee with likely their largest payday ever.

On Saturday, April 5, the 50th Anniversary of racing at the Black Rock Speedway will commence as Pepsi presents a pair of 50-lap features for two of the fastest growing divisions in the Northeast.

Both features will not only pay $5,000-to-win, but will also reward each driver that is able to qualify for the feature event with $200 just for taking the green flag.

The 2008 Mr. DIRTcar Sportsman Tour will swing into action with the first crate-only tour race in their history. With equal power underneath the hood, this 50-lap event should be just at hotly contested, as was the only other $5,000-to-win sportsman event, held last October, when Chris Hile made a late-race pass on Chris Higgins for the largest win of his career.

No street stock race at Black Rock has ever paid $5,000-to-win, but with stunning car counts in $2,000-to-win races of the past, there is every reason to believe that this even will fill the massive pit area at the Yates County Powerplant.

Heat races will get underway for this event promptly at 4:00 p.m.

Before competitive racing gets underway, there will be the traditional Arnot Mall Car Show in Horseheads, NY this Saturday and Sunday. There will also be an open practice session for all classes on Friday, April 4, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in preparation for this highly anticipated event.

The inside wall came out this weekend, but the racing will still be as intense as ever as the 4/10-mile gets underway with what should be a fun-filled 2008.
