Black Rock Speedway a Fanís Paradise the Next Two Fridayís
By RICH VLECK
DUNDEE, NY - After perhaps the largest event of the year at the Black Rock Speedway, things will sort of get back to normal with the point races heating up and the fans being rewarded with a number of special treats.
August 15- The sportsman, late model and street stocks will return, while the 4-cylinders and bandits will again be on the card. A football and soccer coach enduro will also be on the card. The best part of the night though is that it is only $5 for fans.
Great Escape Ice Cream Parlor, Penn Yan Automotive and ThreeHamsters.com will present the annual fan appreciation night. Adults will be admitted for just $5 as Black Rockís thanks to the dedicated fans that have supported Black Rock all year long.
The Hoselton Sportsman, Freedom Village USA Late Models and Labatt Blue Street Stocks will be running their second-to-last point race of the year, meaning that time is running out for teams to make up ground.
In the sportsman division, Todd Henderson carries a 19-point lead into Friday Night. Depending on the way things turn out, it is possible that Henderson could lock up the title this weekend.
Dave DuBois is seeking his first career championship in the late models, holding an 11-point advantage over two-time defending champion Jeremy Wonderling.
Chris Fisher is another driver looking for his first title. Being 26 points up on Rich Sharpsteen, Fisher could lock up the title Friday, or could lose the top spot; that is how tight things are.
The Signs Plus of Kanona 4-cylinders and the Home Necessities Bandits have three races left including this week so their championships have a ways to go. Joe Povoski and Dylan Cecee hold the advantage in those respective divisions as they continue to truck along.
Football and soccer coach enduros will be run throughout the night. Those
coaches interested in competing are encouraged to contact Mark Sincock at
August 22- Wreckapalooza!!!!!!!! Not only are the modified, 4-cylinders and bandits
running on the night, but just about anything that can get smashed up will. Black Rock has lined up a sponsor to correspond with each thing that will get wrecked!!
Mansfield Crane will be sponsoring the After Shock Monster Truck Freestyle Show. No time trials, no racing, just complete freestyle mayhem.
Camping World RV Demolition Derby- Everyone loves a demolition derby, well now a motor home will now be the focus of the carnage. After this event, the owners will have no choice but to go to Camping World of Bath and pick up a new RV!
Markís Boat Center Boat Races- If you havenít seen a boat race before, this will be worth the price of admission in and of itself. Markís is located in Churchville, Conesus, Canandaigua and Brewerton and will be bringing in boats from all locations. We donít expect much water at Black Rock, but that doesnít mean these boats canít cruise around this place. As an added bonus, radio personality Steve Kellogg has volunteered to lend his boat to one lucky driver!
WNY Bus Sales School Bus Race- School bus is no back in session yet, and after this race, they might have to postpone the start in order to build some new buses. This is sure to be a kidís favorite!
As for the regular action, the Marbleís Automotive Modified will return after a week off to run their second-to-last point race of the season. The modifieds easily have the tightest point battle at the track this year and it will definitely come down to the wire.
Two-time champion Brian Swarthout holds a slim two point lead over Eric Fisher atop the standings. Swarthout has been hitting his stride over the last few weeks and will be tough to overtake.
Behind those top two, Ron White is just 19 points back in third, still easily within striking distance. White leads an incredibly tight group of chasers, with Mike Mahaney one point behind and Ray Bliss one back of him.
Dale Welty is sixth in points, but only 24 points out. Chris Ostrowsky is also within reach of the championship, only one behind Welty.
Racing action, as always, will start at 6:45 p.m.
